The International Judes Commission is an organization which evolved out of the ISF. Their main task is to educate new judges and the IJC sends their best judges to major international contests (e.g. Burton Global Open Series). The Burton Global Open Series events are the pinnacle snowboarding events of the season. Founded by Jake Burton, the Opens have grown from grassroots events to global spectacles attracting tens of thousands of spectators and riders from around the world. Since the beginning, the Opens have been driven by riders, for riders evolving with snowboarding and riders' needs over the years. With events held in Canada, Europe, Japan, the United States, New Zealand and Australia, the Opens set the standard for snowboarding events around the globe.

The Burton European Open 2008 (January 11-18, 2008) in LAAX, Switzerland, are Europe's biggest snowboard competition with up to 500 riders competing in Slopestyle and Halfpipe. Men, Women and Juniors will compete in two disciplines for US$ 125.000 prize-money. The Burton European Open is a 6-Star TTR event and part of the Burton Global Open Series.
